Eurosport to offer comprehensive coverage of inaugural European Championships across Europe across all platforms

July 30 2018

• Fans across Europe will be able to watch every moment from the first-ever European Championships across Eurosport’s platforms
• Eurosport’s screening of multi-sport event in Europe to replicate Tokyo 2020 which takes place in two years’ time
• Eurosport experts to include Olympic medallists Joanna Rowsell Shand (UK) and Thomas Rupprath (Germany)

188 events featuring 4,500 athletes over 11 days of drama-fuelled competition.

Fans across Europe will be able to watch the best athletes the continent has to offer with every minute of the inaugural European Championships available to watch live either on Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, and the Eurosport Player, also accessible via the integrated app.

Taking place between Thursday 2 August and Sunday 12 August 2018, fans of athletics, aquatics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, golf and triathlon will be able to enjoy the sport of their choice. Whether it be in Berlin or Glasgow, viewers will be able to choose to watch their favourite sport or athlete at the touch of a button.

With just two years to go until Tokyo 2020 and as the ‘Home of the Olympics’ in Europe*, Eurosport’s coverage of the European Championships will give fans the perfect opportunity to enjoy a multi-sport event across multiple platforms - crystallising Eurosport’s ambition to engage more people on more screens.

Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 will broadcast over 120 hours of coverage, including daily highlights, with the Eurosport Player screening EVERY field event – from the javelin to the long jump and the hammer to the shot put – live from the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

For the first edition of the quadrennial event which has brought together the existing European Championships from some of the continent's leading sports, Eurosport has gathered an all-star line-up of experts throughout Europe.

German fans will get the unique insights of two-time Olympic swimming medallist Thomas Rupprath, as well as German track athlete Simon Stüzel. In the United Kingdom, track cycling fans will be able to enjoy expert insights from two-time Olympic champion Joanna Rowsell Shand while Polish fans will have the privilege of having four-time Olympic gold medal winner and racewalking legend Robert Korzeniowski commentating on athletics with Kryzysztof Wyrzykowski - one of the greatest Polish riders of all-time - covering road cycling.

Emir Osmanbegovic, SVP Sports Content and Production, Eurosport, said: “With our comprehensive coverage of the European Championships, fans will be able to watch every event, every athlete and every minute on Eurosport and Eurosport Player, underlining Eurosport’s position as the number one destination in Europe for sports fans. Making every field event exclusive to our OTT platform, the Eurosport Player, gives viewers the opportunity to become their own director during competition time.

“With our year-round premium live sport coverage, Eurosport continues to deliver on its status as “Home of the Olympics” in Europe in the lead up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Summer Games, allowing fans to follow the best athletes in the world as they strive for excellence and Olympic glory.”

Last week, Eurosport released its 30-second on-air promo for the European Championships, emphasising that every drama-filled event from the European Championships will be available to watch on Eurosport and Eurosport Player.
